RPS to host Regional Basketball Clinic Oct. 19

Rockford Public Schools is hosting a basketball coaching clinic Saturday, Oct. 19, which is open to all area basketball coaches.

No clinic like this exists in the Rockford area, said Mat Parker, Director of Athletic Activities and Program Development. It’s a great opportunity to bring together a diverse group of successful local coaches to share their insight to improve student athletics. Coaches can still sign up for the clinic, and attendees can earn CPDU (Continuing Professional Development Unit) credits.

The clinic includes presentations from the following basketball experts:
Carl Armato, Rockford Public Schools Director of Basketball Operations and Development, former Northern Illinois University Associate Athletics Director, Assistant Coach
Craig Doty, Rock Valley College Sports Coordinator and Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Midwest Elite Basketball Coach
Mark Montgomery, Northern Illinois University Head Men’s Basketball Coach and former assistant coach to Tom Izzo at Michigan State University
Misty Opat, Rock Valley College Athletic Director and Head Women’s Basketball Coach and two-time National NJCAA Champion
Bryan Ott, Auburn High School Head Boys’ Basketball Coach

Cost to attend is $25, which includes the clinic, lunch and gifts from Aim High Hoops, BSN Sports and Rockford Public Schools. This is the second year RPS is hosting a basketball coaching clinic. About 50 area coaches attended the event last year.
