Merit Semi-finalists compared to 14 at Boylan (Catholic High School, five at
Keith Country Day School and three at Lutheran High School.

Auburn High School is a comprehensive high
school which also houses the school district's high school Academic Gifted Program
and the Creative and Performing Arts Program.
Auburn has an average of 9 to 11 National
Merit Scholars yearly. The student average ACT score is 24.4 (Core), 23.1 (All
students).
Auburn was built in 1960 and is handicapped
accessible. Auburn High School students achieve an average ACT score of 24.4,
and have a graduation rate of 77.2%.
The school is culturally diverse and has
a supportive and committed staff and student body.
New Science Technology Wing
The school recently opened a new $3 million Science
and Technology wing that offers an improved learning environment that features
new and expanded areas of study, including the following programs and amenities:
- A+ computer technician training, I-Net Internet certification,
CISCO(tm) network certification, medical science
aviation, automotive, business technology and media communications.
- Auburn is piloting a freshman leadership class. Leadership
for a Technological World. Students are studying their own leadership
potential and will develop a leadership plan for themselves. A variety of
types of leaders will engage with the students to study, observe, interpret,
analyze and evaluate ongoing leaders and their leadership process.
- Art and theatre programs have been improved with the
completion of an outdoor courtyard patio space and a new scene shop.
- The school is very excited about its new Atrium space that not only provides
a learning environment during the day, but will also be available for technology
training for our parents and community during hours that the school is not
in session.
- New lighting and ceilings in all hallways and classrooms, as well as new
outdoor perimeter lighting.
- Five additional computer labs with Internet connections.
- Technology enhanced medical science lab
- A media communications suite with two TV production studios, a radio studio
and editing rooms with multiple work stations.
- Aviation lab
- Three networked computer labs with Internet connections
- Outdoor art patio
- New main entrance and driveway configuration.
- New roof, improved locker rooms, student commons area,
- Auburn has advanced placement classes and a Principal
Scholars Program.
- Student services include Peer Mediation, Peer Mentoring,
Natural Helpers, Discover Program (Counseling Center), and Upward Bound.
- Special Education Services are available.
- Auburn is a member of the Northern Illinois Conference
with complete teams in all sporting activities for men and women.
- Numerous non-athletic student centered clubs and
organizations exist including African American Club, Amnesty International,
Math Club, National Honor Society, School Newspaper, Theatre Club, and Visual
Arts Club. In addition, the school has an award-winning JROTC
program for students.
- Auburn has a weight room, a theatre/auditorium and
is handicapped accessible.
- Individual Career Planning is available to students
at Auburn.
- Opportunities for family involvement include the
Booster Club and School Improvement Team.
Auburn's mission is to provide a positive
educational environment where the opportunity to learn, take risks and make
decisions, allows students to realize and manifest their unique potentials as
responsible members of the community.
