For the 1987-1988 school year, the various bands kept busy. They performed for the J-Hawks football games, basketball games, pep rallies, Homecoming, the Christmas Concert, the Spring Concert, All-City Band Festival, and at graduation. Ben Garwood served as the Band Director. In addition to the seasonal Marching Band, the J-Hawk Band was the main school band and involvment also included learning music theory. Beginning Band was for freshmen or others wanting to learn a new instrument. Symphonic Band included the most advanced students and there was also a Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab.
