Early Childhood Summer Learning Highlights

Summer was in full swing at Nashold Early Childhood Center! After a year of remote or in-person learning and an adaptive pause, the halls of Nashold were full of students again as they moved to their summer classrooms. The sounds of kids greeting adults and friends, laughter, and the excitement of being back at school echoed in the halls.

This summer the RPS 205 Early Childhood department offered a four week summer school program. The S’Mores Summer program offered 240 Early Childhood scholars the opportunity to attend a shortened day during the month of July. They followed an adjusted daily schedule that included meals and time to be outside.

As Nashold’s new principal, I have overseen this summer opportunity. It was amazing to see our scholars actively participating in rich, hands-on learning activities this summer. As teachers reflected on their experience, they acknowledged the growth that they saw in scholars within four weeks. Students and staff exhibited hard work and dedication to the summer learning program.

Teachers captured highlights from over the summer related to each key component of our program (morning meeting, small group, large group, gross motor, work time, and read aloud). This video gives a glimpse of a variety of the learning experiences that students had the opportunity to engage in: S'more Summer Learning Highlights
