Fun at Summer Camp Illustrates Both Academic & Social Growth

At Camp No Other Future Like Yours at Cherry Valley Elementary School, we saw more than just academic growth in our students. We saw social growth too – and we’re excited to see how it prepares students for this next school year!

The campers worked on their reading and math skills while in their classrooms, as well as social-emotional learning and arts integration time. They also spent time outside playing football and basketball with the Rockford Park District Sport Fit staff, while The Discovery Center has taught them about flying machines. Campers made their own flying machines, too.

In media arts, campers looked to the future! Some of them created a layered image using the Green Screen app to show what their future goals are, while other groups worked with Ozobots, coding them to follow commands they’ve been given.

We had more than 400 students registered for Camp this summer at Cherry Valley, many of whom didn’t know each other before we arrived earlier this month. It’s been so much fun to watch new friendships form and grow each day. That will help lay the foundation for a strong start to the 2021-22 school year. 

I wanted to share a picture of three students – Jovani Gamoneda, Elijah Berchiolly-Johnson and Nathan Riley – who jumped to action and held the door open as their fellow campers came to school from their buses. We love the example that they are setting for their classmates, as well as their servant hearts!
