West Alumnus Leads Rockford School Board

Ken Scrivano Headshot

​Ken Scrivano graduated from West High School in 1970, and this year he'll attend his 50th reunion. After graduating from West, he attended Rock Valley College and earned an associate's degree in respiratory care; then earned a bachelor's degree in health care administration from Ottawa University in Kansas and a master's degree in health care administration from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. He retired from SwedishAmerican after 43 years as a health care administrator. Scrivano has served as a member of the Rockford School Board since 2011, and he is currently the board president.

Which RPS 205 schools did you attend?
I attended Summerdale Elementary School for kindergarten through sixth grades; Roosevelt Junior High School for seventh, eighth and ninth grades; and West High School for grades 10-12.

What's your favorite memory about attending school in RPS 205?
Participating in musicals, band and choir concerts, attending football and basketball games, and making lifelong friends.

How has your time in Rockford Public Schools contributed to your success – whether in your career or life?
Rockford Public Schools laid the foundation for my post-secondary studies and my career choice in health care.

Is there anything else you want to say about your time in RPS 205?
Thanks to the many wonderful teachers and principals I had. They were terrific role models and always made me feel that I could be successful, but they also reminded me to put in the effort.
