Family Connection is Key at Nashold Early Childhood Center

Family support specialists at Nashold Early Childhood Center

Family support specialists at Nashold Early Childhood Center recently held a nutrition workshop for RPS 205 Early Childhood families. In partnership with the University of Illinois, the interactive session reached 89 participants who engaged in a hands-on food demonstration and created a healthy snack mix with their children. Additionally, all families that participated received a giveaway. The giveaways included fruit and vegetable toy baskets, books, water bottles and kitchen utensils.

The success of this first in-person workshop in two years was due in part to the efforts of the Nashold Family Support Team: Diana Gonzales, Sarah Lewis, Giovana Ortega and Michele LaCount. They acknowledged that personal communication with the families in a variety of ways supported the attendance of the workshop. Knowing the families they work with and providing an area for children to play during the presentation so that adults could listen and focus added to the success. The team is excited to continue the success with additional workshops in the future.

RPS 205 Early Childhood has family support specialists assigned to all preschool classrooms.
