Meet Fairview’s U.S. Army Veteran Jeanette Mendoza
Jeanette Mendoza, a teacher at Fairview Early Childhood Center, joined the U.S. Army at 17 years old after graduating high school. She shared it was the smartest decision she ever made. Her parents encouraged and supported her to join so she could have money to pay for her college education.
She went to basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C, and then Fort Rucker, Ala., for Advanced Individual Training (AIT) for her Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). She was an air traffic controller who worked in a tower at a helipad since the Army uses mostly helicopters.
Jeanette received orders to go to South Korea, where she met her husband and got married at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul. They have been married 22 years. Jeanette served for four years, and her husband continued to serve for 10 years.
Her military experience gave her opportunities for travel and education. These opportunities led her to become a teacher. She has traveled all over the world; overseas to places like to Japan, Australia and Mexico, as well as throughout the United States. Jeanette shared that she learned discipline, respect and teamwork. Jeanette said, "I am a proud woman veteran!"
Please help me in thanking Jeanette for her service to our country!
