Auburn High School senior Emma Ottes is the winner of the National Merit University of Central Florida Scholarship. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced more than 3,100 winners of National Merit Scholarships today, financed by U.S. colleges and universities.

Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

Ottes lists her probable career field as civil engineering at the University of Central Florida, where its curriculum combines diversified programs in engineering, computer science, business administration, arts and sciences, education, and health.

Ottes is one of approximately 4,000 high school seniors who will win a college-sponsored Merit Scholarship this year; about 7,500 seniors across the country are expected to win National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million.

In March, Ottes was named among 15,000 seniors as a finalist for the National Merit Scholarship Award. National Merit Scholarship winners are chosen from the pool of finalists based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments. More information: www.nationalmerit.org
