Insurance

Rockford Public Schools employees are eligible for insurance benefits after 30 days of continuous employment.

Insurance includes health, dental and prescription coverage. Employees can choose a medical insurance plan from BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois: a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan or a High Deductible Health plan with a Health Savings Account (HSA). 

Employees can also open a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for health care and dependent care expenses.

Retirement

Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois

RPS 205 employees with certified positions are eligible for pension benefits through the Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois (TRS). The district contributes on behalf of the employee to the pension plan.

 

Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund

RPS 205 employees with non-certified positions who work more than 600 hours per year are eligible for pension benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). Employees must contribute to their pension plan. The district also contributes to employee pension plans.

 

Voluntary Retirement Funds

RPS 205 employees can voluntarily save additional retirement funds through a 403(b) plan. Employees can contribute to a traditional pre-tax plan and/or an after-tax (Roth) plan.

Paid Time Off

Holidays

Full-time employees who work at least 30 hours per week are provided paid holidays. Bus drivers and paraprofessionals required to work at least 25 hours per week are also eligible for paid holidays. ​

​Administrative, Rockford Building Maintenance Association (RBMA) and Educational Office Personnel Association (EOPA) employees working year round receive 14 paid holidays each year.

 

Vacation and Sick Time

The amount of paid vacation and paid sick time is determined by:

  • the type of position (certified or non-certified)
  • the employee schedule (year round or 10 months of the year)
  • bargaining unit

Employer-Assisted Housing Program

RPS 205 offers qualified staff assistance to purchase eligible homes within district boundaries through the Employer-Assisted Housing program.

RPS 205 will pay 5% of the purchase price – up to $10,000 – for a single-family home.

RPS 205 will pay 10% of the purchase price – up to $20,000 – for a foreclosed home, home owned by a governmental or not-for-profit organization, or a short sale.
