Ensuring that our littles stay safe and well involves some creative thought and care. It goes beyond just saying "No don't touch that; It's hot". So this summer, the Prevention Initiative program provided some fun activities to teach our youngest learners about health and safety. They learned about germs and proper hand washing, how to brush their teeth, and were even able to perform a life size operation to identify what good and bad things go inside our bodies.

In addition, the Rockford Police Department joined us to teach the children about safety. Police Officer, Patrice, read to the children and asked them questions about proper tooth brushing and times brush. UIC College of Medicine was also on site to let families know about health related services available to them. We ended with a great game of red light, green light. Who knew that 3 year olds could do reverse red light green light and add in yellow for caution?

As you think about what it takes to keep our youngest learners safe and well... we found that it takes imagination and parent participation!
