If you’ve stopped by the front office lately, you’ve definitely noticed the incredible new mural. Featuring our mascot, Mr. Buzzy the YellowJacket, and the phrase “Buzzing with Ambition,” the artwork brings an amazing rush of color and energy to the space. The artist behind it is our own art teacher, Narquavion Fort. And for him, this project is deeply personal.
Mr. Fort is a true Rockford success story. He grew up right here, attending RPS 205 schools from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. From there, he earned his Associate of Arts from Rock Valley College in 2019, followed by his Bachelor of Fine Arts and PreK-12 education credentials from Rockford University in 2025.
As the first person in his family to earn an education degree, becoming a teacher is something he takes immense pride in. Step into his classroom, and you’ll instantly see that pride in action. "I strive to create a positive, encouraging, and engaging environment where students can grow creatively, build confidence, and leave my classroom knowing they mattered and that someone believed in them," Mr. Fort says.
Now entering his second year at Constance Lane, Mr. Fort has quickly become a leader in our building. He doesn't just teach technique; he pours his time into our kids through after-school programs, summer camps, and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) support. In a lot of ways, he is the perfect reflection of Constance Lane herself. Just like the pioneering RPS educator our school is named after, Mr. Fort uses his unique talents and leadership to make sure every single student knows they have value.
Be sure to take a closer look at the new mural next time you visit the office. We are so lucky to have a teacher who keeps our school culture thriving, inspired, and buzzing!
