On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the Jefferson High School girls' track and field team competed at the NIC 10 Championship held at Freeport HS, IL. Both Varsity and Junior Varsity squads had athletes participate across various track and field events.
In the Varsity sprint events, Makayla Taylor finished 7th in the 100 Meters with a time of 13.03a and set a personal record (PR) in the 200 Meters with a 7th place finish at 27.20a. Jalisa Robinson also had strong showings, finishing 8th in the 100 Meters with a PR of 13.05a and 9th in the 200 Meters with a PR of 27.50a. For the Junior Varsity, Alivyah Byrd finished tied for 4th in the 100 Meters with a PR of 13.94a, a time matched by teammate Aniyah Pitts who also finished 4th. In the JV 200 Meters, Jamareah Flint placed 4th, setting a PR of 29.36a.
Moving to the hurdles, Jernise Ellis finished 10th in the Varsity 100m Hurdles with a PR of 19.24a. She also placed 8th in the Varsity 300m Hurdles, achieving a PR of 54.25a. Kayliah Smith also competed in the Varsity hurdles, finishing 9th in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 18.46a.
Jefferson also saw competitive results in the relays. The Varsity 4x100m Relay team, consisting of Kayliah Smith, Jalisa Robinson, Dereona Edison, and Makayla Taylor, finished 3rd with a time of 51.10a. This same group ran the Varsity 4x200m Relay, placing 5th in 1:50.55a. The Junior Varsity 4x100m Relay team of Rayniah Johnson, Jamareah Flint, Alivyah Byrd, and Aniyah Pitts earned 2nd place with a time of 53.79a. The JV 4x200m Relay team, featuring the same athletes, finished 3rd in their event with a time of 1:57.74a.
In the field events, Naomi Cultra secured a 3rd place finish in the Varsity Shot Put, setting a PR with a throw of 10.39m. She also competed in the Varsity Discus, placing 8th with a throw of 25.77m. Taejah Paschal finished 9th in the Varsity High Jump with a height of 1.42m. In the Junior Varsity Pole Vault, Vanessa Malyvanh tied for 1st place, achieving a PR of 2.14m. Rayniah Johnson placed 3rd in the Junior Varsity Triple Jump with a mark of 8.65m. In the Varsity Long Jump, Akyra Champion finished 11th with a distance of 3.96m. Akyra Champion also placed 7th in the Varsity Triple Jump, setting a PR of 9.53m.
The girls will compete at the IHSA class 3A sectional at Huntley High School next Wednesday, May 14th for the chance to go to state.
