Addison Smith struck out 13 batters as the starting pitcher led Jefferson Jhawks Varsity past Freeport Varsity Softball 2025 2-1 on Friday. Smith surrendered four hits and one run over seven innings while walking none.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Jefferson Jhawks Varsity pitchers struck out 13, while Freeport Varsity Softball 2025 sat down five.
Jefferson Jhawks Varsity opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth thanks to two singles. Jefferson Jhawks Varsity first got on the board when Smith singled, scoring one run.
Mackenzee Matz took the loss for Freeport Varsity Softball 2025. The starter went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking two.
Ormariyah Farris went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Jefferson Jhawks Varsity in hits. Jefferson Jhawks Varsity were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Kaylen Zernicke made the most plays with 14.
Grace Muench went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Matz, Quinn Krzeminski, Muench, and Diem Beach each collected one hit for Freeport Varsity Softball 2025.
Jefferson Jhawks Varsity will travel to Rockford Auburn Varsity Knights for their next game on Monday.
