You are not alone: Some of our kids are struggling.
They feel overwhelmed and isolated. Like they have nowhere to turn.
And no one should feel this way.
The truth is, too many young people do. And they suffer alone in silence.
That’s why It’s time to look out for one another, to listen.
It’s time to remind our children - “we’re here for you.”
Mental health reality:
More kids than ever are battling feelings of sadness and hopelessness.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for kids 10 to 14 - a grim fact that’s grown more than 60% in the past decade.
Clearly, this can’t continue. We have to be there for one another.
The warning signs:
If you see a friend struggling, a classmate, or even yourself – don’t ignore it!
Please reach out if you or someone you know is:
-Withdrawing from friends, family, or activities they used to love
-Feeling anxious, hopeless, or unusually sad
-Having sudden changes in mood or behavior
-Talking about disappearing or not wanting to be here
You are not alone: Every one of our schools has counselors, social workers, and people who truly care.
Your mental health matters. You matter.
If you’re struggling - reach out. Talk to a teacher, counselor, a parent, or any adult you trust.
And if you see someone in trouble - don’t stay silent. Talk to them, offer support. And tell someone!
Make a difference:
Rockford Public Schools invests nearly $30 million every year in social-emotional support. But no amount of money replaces everyday human contact.
Check in, say hi, or have a conversation telling someone they’re not alone.
So, let’s do something good. Because a little kindness can make all the difference.
Please reach out, we’re here to help:
- 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline – Call 988
- Crisis Text Line – Text HOME to 741741
- Safe 2 Help Text Line – Text 72332
- RPS 205 School Counselors & Support Services available in every school
This year, we’re taking the next step in streamlining and simplifying the registration process for everyone by transitioning to 100% online registration. For more detailed information, please visit https://www.rps205.com/page/registration
